15 Feb 2022 (Field Visit)

                             The Department of Physics and Institution Innovation Council jointly organized a field visit to Killikulam Agribusiness Incubation Forum located near Vallanadu for the students on 15.02.2022. Four students from I B. Sc Physics, 8 students from II B. Sc Physics, 6 students from I M. Sc Physics, 5 students from II M. Sc Physics along with two faculty members visited the Centre. Killikulam Agribusiness Incubation Forum (KABIF) is promoted by Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam, Tuticorin district. The ultimate mission of the centre was to build young entrepreneurs. KABIF creates an agriculture entrepreneurial ecosystem, wherein young men and women farmers, students, traders, processors etc get an opportunity to start entrepreneurial ventures based on innovative ideas, or existing products. This will pave way for developing new products. In these regions there are many education institutions and KABIF provides entrepreneurial opportunities for students.

                             Mrs. M. Jeevitha, Chief Executive Officer oriented the students to become young entrepreneurs. She gave a presentation on the opportunities and infrastructure available at the centre. The students had a chance to visit the Millet Processing Unit, KABIF incubate cabins, KABIF-Banking Unit. They also had a glimpse of the various machineries and the different technique employed by them in growing plants without soil. This visit paved way to create an interest among the students to become future  entrepreneurs.

15 Feb 2022 (Online Poster Presentation Competition)

Department of Physics and Institution Innovation Council organized an online poster presentation Competition on the topic” Inventions to Market (Physics) "on 15.02 2022 at       4:30 pm through Zoom platform. The event commenced with a prayer song followed by the welcome address by Ms. Santhana Thyaka Lakshmi. P of II  M.Sc Physics. Dr. Sr. Jessie Fernando, Head and Associate Professor of Physics, was the chief evaluator and inspired the students through her motivational talk. The students displayed their posters and explained their innovations. The posters were evaluated by Dr. Sr. Jessie Fernando and the winner was announced. Mr. Kandavel, II M. Sc Physics student of K.S. Rangasamy College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Tiruchengode won the first prize. On account of post event memory we had a quick photo session of the virtual attendees present. The prize winner, Mr. Kandavel gave his feedback on the event. Many students registered their innovative ideas in day to day life through Physics. Ms. Jenslin Divona of II M.Sc Physics rendered the vote of thanks. The whole event was mastered by Ms. B Sangeetha under the guidance of Ms. P Padmavathi, Coordinator and IIC member and Dr. A Nirmala Shirley, Innovation Ambassador and Assistant Professor of Physics. The programme ended with the College Anthem.

It was on the radiant afternoon of Sep 3rd 2021, a national level online poster making competition was organized on the topic, “Impact of Online Classes on Students”. The competition was jointly organized by the Department of Physics and the Institution Innovation Council. The program began with a prayer song and Ms. Valentina extended her words of glee to the gathering through her welcome address. Dr. Sr. Jessie Fernando, Head and Associate Professor of the department of Physics graced the occasion as the judge and rewarded the students for their creative efforts. Participants described their posters for one minute and three best posters were selected and the winners from different states namely Jeyashree S from Karunya Institute of science and technology, Rohini from St. Mary's College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi and Ankita Chokravarty from Nagaland University won the first, second and third prizes respectively and were rewarded with cash prizes and certificates. Dr. Sr. Jessie, judge of the competition expressed her words of appreciation to all the participants. The competition successfully ended up with our college anthem.

The Institution’s Innovation Council and The Department of Physics, St.Mary's College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, both UG and PG, organized an innovative talk on the topic, ‘SMALL BUSINESS (START-UP) IDEAS BASED ON SOLAR CELL RESEARCH’ on 12th  March  2021 through Google platform at 2.30 pm. Dr. J. Merline Shyla, Dean of Sciences and Director-LIFE, Department of Physics, Loyola College, Chennai was the guest speaker. Ms. Rachel of II B. Sc Physics welcomed the speaker and Ms. Rohini , IIC student member ,  proposed the vote of thanks.  Around 97 students, both UG and PG and 10 faculty members were benefited by this programme. The Students gained more knowledge about photovoltaic technology and types of solar cell. She gave  start-up ideas in solar cell products and services. She also kindled the solar research which is concealed within students. The programme was well organized by the IIC members ,  Dr. M. Sheeba, Ms. P. Dhanalakshmi, Ms. P. Padmavathi,       Dr. A. Nirmala Shirley and IIC student members Ms. S. Triffilla Missier,            Ms. Jaisala and Ms. Rohini under the guidance of  Dr. Sr. C. Shibana Deputy principal and IIC Vice President.

The Institution’s Innovation Council and The Department of Physics, St.Mary's College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi organized an innovative talk on the topic, ‘DESIGN THINKING’ on 23rd  December  2020 through Google platform at 3pm. Dr. K. Mohanraj, Assistant Professor and IIC President of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli was the guest speaker. Sr. Jessie Fernando, Head of the Department of Physics, welcomed the speaker and Ms. Shakthi of II B.Sc Physics proposed the vote of thanks. Around 91 students, both UG and PG and 10 faculty members were benefited by this programme. The Students came to know about Design thinking, which is an iterative process which seeks to understand the user, the challenges faced by the user and the ways to redefine the problem. It provided a solution based approach to slove problems. It paved way for the students to think and work on the basis of hands-on-methods .Students also came to know the latest advancements in the generation of Solar Cells, Single Junction Silicon cells, Thin Film Cells and Multi Junction Cells and their efficiencies. The programme was well organized by the IIC members Dr. M. Sheeba, Ms. P. Dhanalakshmi, Ms. P. Padmavathi, Ms. A. Nirmala Shirley and IIC student members Ms. S. Triffilla Missier, Ms. Jaisala and Ms. Rohini under the guidance of Dr.Sr.C.Shibana Deputy principal and IIC Vice President.
