Department of Commerce

The commencement of the Department of Commerce in 1975 and its storied evolution into the present Research Department that it represents today is credited to the commitment of several who grew with us. The Department of Commerce which served as the thrust area for many potential entrepreneurs and remarkable alumni started with the establishment of the UG Programme in 1975 and was upgraded with the introduction of the PG Programme in 1980, M.Phil in 2014 and Ph.D in 2015. To meet the growing demand for the subject, three more sections were added under the Self-Financing Stream in 2002, 2014 and 2015. MHRM, the UGC sponsored innovative PG Programme, was established in the year 2012, under the Department of Commerce. This programme offers internship, HR training and industrial visits to enhance the employability skills of the students. The Department has been designed to equip students with skill sets to explore, experiment and imbibe an in-depth understanding of the trading sector and business activities to gain empirical as well as technical knowledge. It has the legitimate claim and pride of being the premier for course curriculum development, teaching and researches in its discipline. The rapid growth of the department is reflected in its expansion as well as novelty in its academic programmes. To give a practical exposure to the students in a real work environment our department has MOUs with different industries . The department has produced many Gold Medalists and University Rank Holders over the years and has paved a prestigious path for numerous professions and notable legends that have branched out from their parental node. Our alumni prove themselves to be precious assets to the department through their support in all our endeavours, and are great inspirations to the present students. Functioning now under autonomy, the department with its own Board of Studies periodically revises and updates the syllabi for UG and PG programmes to include innovative, skill based and career-oriented courses in order to enhance the employability of the students. The department has a teaching pool of 10 regular faculties with excellent credentials for teaching and research, while maintaining a healthy faculty-student relationship.
