Department of English
English as a subject and also as a medium of instruction has always held a prestigious position in the saga of St. Mary’s College. The Department of English was established with the inception of the college in the year 1948. English as major discipline for specialization at the graduate level was first offered in 1963 in the Aided Stream and in 2012 in the Self- Supporting Stream. Its horizon expanded with English introduced at the Post Graduate level in 1967. M.Phil in English was introduced in 1991 in the Aided Stream and was reintroduced in 2015 in the Self Supporting Stream. The department was upgraded as a Research department in 2013. A team of 16 efficient faculty spearhead nearly 300 students. New areas of study and need based papers focusing on recent global trends and employability concerns have been incorporated both at the UG and PG levels.
