An International webinar on “My Story: Motivational Session by Successful Innovators” was jointly organized by Institution’s Innovation Council and PG and Research epartment of Zoology on 31st January 2022. Mr. M. Maria Antony, Executive Director of John Group, Maria International Pvt. Limited, Singapore served as the resource person and delivered the motivational speech on how to become a successful innovator. He shared his views by telling a small story and proverbs. He highlighted the starting obstacles prevailing in the business viz., time consuming, big risks and fear of failure. Major influential factors including geographical, social, legal, behavioural and economic factors were deliberated by him. This session gave deep insight into the area of the business development plan, power of compounding, data analyses and private limited companies. Around 115 faculty members and students were benefited out through this motivational session.

The “Video Making Competition on Ideation for Startup on Bioinnovation” for college students was organized by Institution’s Innovation Council and P.G Research Department of Zoology of St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi in Microsoft Teams platform on 15.02.2022. Dr. P.J.Joslin, Associate Professor of Zoology and Research Coordinator, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi evaluated the videos. Students from various colleges submitted their videos in Google Classroom. Nearly 12 students participated in this competition and presented their videos in Microsoft Teams platform. Students from various colleges presented their videos. This competition raised insights about the different ideas for the startup on bioinnovation. The students presented their videos on various themes viz., biofuel, GM crops, biodynamic farming and nonwoven natural fibrous materials. This competition instilled entrepreneurial skills among young aspiring minds. And it paves the way for the students to came out of the box to exhibit their talents on biological innovation. J. The “Webinar on Ideation and Innovation: A Motivation for Young Innovators” for college students was organized by Institution’s Innovation Council and P.G Research Department of Zoology of St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi through Zoom platform on 16th February 2022. Mr. K. Sivakar, Partner, Sivanthi Joe Choirs, Thoothukudi served as the resource person and delivered an inspirational speech on startup. His talk enlightened the students on innovation that begins with ideation. He quoted that founders are made not born. This session gave deep insight into the area of process involved in startups and startup learning programme. He also deliberated the growth and development of startups in India. This session threw light on various startup companies in India and their surveillance. Around 90 faculty members and students were benefited out through this motivational session.

The “Poster Competition on Preparation of Herbal Drink” for college students was organized by Institution’s Innovation Council and P.G Research Department of Zoology of St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi on 27.08.2021. Dr. M. Glory, Head and Associate Professor, Department of Botany of St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi evaluated the posters. Students from various colleges submitted their posters in Google Classroom. Nearly 8 students participated in this competition and presented their posters in Zoom platform. Akshaya. K, American College, Madurai, Shanthini. S, American College, Madurai and Ranjitha. M, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi were bagged the First, Second and Third Prizes respectively.

‘A Hands-on training on Sericulture’ and Inaugural Function of the Mulberry Sericulture Unit was organized by the Marian Research Forum in collaboration with PG and Research Department of Zoology and Institution’s Innovation Council, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi on 19.03.2021 in the Star Hall. Dr. Noble Morrison, Retired Scientist D, Research Extension Centre, Central Silk Board, Kolar, Karnataka was the chief guest for the inaugural function and the resource person for the training. In this training session,the resource person highlighted the need for establishing sericulture units in India. He gave a clear idea about the types of silk worm and the techniques of rearing silk worm. The training was followed by planting of Mulberry saplings in the college ground. 110 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Department of Zoology were benefitted through this training session

The success stories of top innovators in the world was highly motivating and instilled the spirit of creative thinking. This orientation programme has opened the doors to get out of the box and pursue inspiring innovation. Around 200 faculty members and students were benefited out through this orientation programme
