NCC Report - Introduction
National Cadet Corps in St. Mary’s functions with an objective of inculcating unity and discipline among the cadets. It instills a spirit of selfless service to mankind through various social service activities. The cadets are trained to develop courage and comradeship, and to work together for the betterment of the society. Our college NCC unit comes under the direct control of 3 TN Girls BN NCC, Tirunelveli. The cadets are trained and moulded by our ANO, Lt. Dr. F. Mary Priya, the Coy Commander and was assisted by the PI staff members and GCIs of our Battalion. The cadets are given training in firing practice, map reading, obstacle training, weapon handling and drill practice etc. In our college, NCC parades are conducted regularly on every Tuesday and Thursday in this academic year. The NCC unit of St. Mary’s College comprises of 104 cadets at present and they undergo NCC training for three years. Apart from the regular training in the institution, the cadets get a wide exposure in camps and also interact with other cadets all over the country by participating in various National level (COC) camps. NCC paper was made as a non major elective for second year students, especially NCC cadets in the second year of their training since 2012.
Every year the NCC cadets visit the Home for the Aged (Jeanne Jugan) in the Thoothukudi, during the Christmas season to entertainment the destitute elderly people with their cultural programmes and express their love and affection. They extend their helping hands to the needy and poor. They involve very actively in various social service activities, awareness campaigns and community development programme. Their contribution towards Swattch Bharath mission is tremendous. Our cadets involve themselves in all the activities of our college programme like honouring Guests during the visit of any special Committee, College functions, Independence Day and Republic day ceremonies etc. NCC celebrates International Yoga Day in a grand manner. The cadets perform yoga for two hours in the morning from 6.00 a.m. to 8.00 a.m. on 21st June, every year. Our cadets appear for the ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificate exams from our college and clear the exams with good grades.
NCC trains the cadets in all spheres of life. NCC provides basic skills to enter the Armed Forces of our nation. We are proud to say that our cadets are eligible and trained in such a way to be placed in various armed forces. NCC cadets’ tireless efforts, adventurous and leadership skills, hard-working nature, social service attitudes and best participation in all activities results in the effective functioning of our college NCC Unit. Thus, wherever they go, they bring laurels to our NCC Battalion, Unit and College.
On the whole, NCC unit in our college strives to groom our students to be the responsible leaders of tomorrow.
