The Department of Psychology has been started in the academic year 2017 – 2018 as a self-supporting course. It has been the first of its kind in Thoothukudi Districtto offer a regular Psychology course for the young women in and around Thoothukudi.It has been aptly started in the calendar year of “JOY”, to offer inner liberation and develop immense self-esteem and happiness in the minds of young women. The department is self-sufficient in its own way with a collection of fine books and a well-equipped lab that will make the study very meaningful and effective for the students along with efficient well qualified faculty.
Courses Offered
UG
B.Sc in Psychology provides a platform for the students to understand the basic concepts, theories and practical skills in Psychology. The curriculum is designed in such a way to compete in this global competition. It is noteworthy to mention here that the students will be studying their course material with a practical approach right from Semester 1. This is made possible with a self-sufficient Psychology lab and an excellent collection of related books facilitated with well qualified efficient faculty
Facilities available
The Department of Psychology has a laboratory with the essential facilities for UG practical. Our library has a good resource of books for core, allied and self - study papers for UG course. The students are very much benefitted with the laboratory and library.
PG
The management has helped in expanding the department into a PG Department by launching the PG Program from the academic year 2022-2023. M.Sc. Psychology has been started in the college without any specialization. The purpose behind this is to efficiently equip students into eligible candidates who can fit into any job setting like schools, colleges, hospitals, mental health centers, industries or even shine as entrepreneurs. Even if they don’t opt to work, it will assist them in making very good life partners and parents. The department is again first ofits kind to offer PG program on regular basis in the district. This makes higher education possiblein a special field like Psychology to girls in and around Thoothukudi district.
