Botany Research Centre

The Department of Botany was recognized as Research department by M. S. University in 2001. Its prime objective is to promote standard research and training at the frontiers of Biological Sciences. Though the center is nucleated around Plant Biology, its infrastructure provides research ambience into related area of biological sciences and other disciplines like Applied Chemistry, Biochemistry, Statistics, Marine Biology, Animal Science and Soil Sciences. The researches cover broad areas ranging from classical to emerging areas like Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics and Nanotechnology. In order to provide ample research ambience, the department has research laboratories equipped with sophisticated instruments for research like FTIR, Gel documenter, AAS, UV visible spectrophotometers, Analytical Centrifuges, along with a well established Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, bioinformatics laboratory and Herbal unit.

The department is enriched with professors with doctorates, who work along researchers, investigates, new ideas to give solution to scientific enquiries. This scientific temper has resulted in a marked contribution towards the research programmes of the institution.  The department has produced 14 Ph.D. Department has completed 2 UGC sponsored Major Scientific Projects, 3 Minor Projects and Several TNSCST sponsored Students’ Projects.  Access to N-list, the superfluous online resources and the DST-FIST funded equipments in the department help to accomplish the scientific challenges at National and International level.

The department regularly contributes to the organize Research Forum, Seminar, Conferences and exhibitions that enhance scholars to develop skill in but critical thinking and analytic ability.

The Research Centre has the following provisions:

  • Laboratories with sophisticated instruments.
  • Wifi enabled Bioinformatics lab with enough computers.
  • Library consisting of large collection of books, journals and e- books for reference.
  • Wifi enabled Department and Laboratories.

The Research Centre aims to:

  1. To explore new ideas and bringing innovation in frontiers of biology
  2. To solve the problems of scientific queries
