The Department of Zoology, with a long standing reputation for quality teaching and research, enjoys a heritage nurtured by great scholars since its inception in 1963. Rev.Dr.Sr.VitalinaMary, former principal was one of the founding pillars and pioneers of the department along with Rev.Sr.Avelin Mary, former principal. Through their dedicated and selfless efforts elevated the department to the forefront. Rev. Dr. Sr. Avelin Mary is the Director of the Sacred Heart Marine Reasearch Centre and she is firmly established in the international arena of scientific research. The champions of the department are Ms. VasukiAloy, Ms. Maria Banumathi, Ms. Dhanarani Liborius and Ms. M. Chandra. Their services are reflected in every achievement of the department.Their lucrative decades of accomplishment were a witness to a wide range of courses introduced at the graduate and post graduate levels. By the contributions of the eminent academicians and with the efforts of our present faculty, it is upgraded as a full-fledged research department emphasizing the advanced research in diverse fields such as Aquaculture Technology, Toxicology, Pollution& Marine Biotechnology.It is recognized for DST-FIST support from the year 2011.
