The Department of English (SSC) stands as an epitomic exemplar of excellent education and plays a vital role in fulfilling the vision of St. Mary’s College. The Department of English (SSC) was established in the year 2002 along with other Self- financing courses. Having its foundation established with the initiation of Part II English, the department has widened the walls of this sheltering and nurturing center for yearning literary minds, with the introduction of B. A. English literature in 2012, M. Phil in 2015 and M.A. English literature in 2019. The Department was founded with the vibrant vision of eradication of vice and ignorance, and inculcation of wise ideals, has its history written in golden inscriptions due to the tireless efforts of foresighted faculty who intermingle their intellect and interest, with the invincible divine intervention and enlightening ideas of literary masters. The invaluable gems of students of this Self-financing course, made lustrous by the magical touch of polishing agents, the professors, emanate their luminous rays of acquired skills everywhere through their active participation in literary competitions in various colleges. The department continues to transmit the academic enlightenment offered by literature by organizing National seminars, workshops, interschool and intercollegiate competitions.
