Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest departments of the college. It aspires to be recognized for its excellence, valuable and expert resource to the college and maintains a good record of service from its inception in 1948. In 1951 B.A.Mathematics was introduced under the affiliation of Madras University and continued as B.Sc. Mathematics since 1957.In 2002 M.Sc. Mathematics was introduced as a self financing course. In 2010 B.Sc. Mathematics was introduced in self finance stream. The department was elevated into a research department in the year 2015 with Ph.D. (Full Time & Part Time) Programme. M.Phil Mathematics was introduced as a self financing course in 2017. The Department has celebrated its 70th Anniversary in the year 2021. To mark the anniversary, St. Mary’s Mathematics Research Forum was inaugurated on 07th July2021. The Department aims at holistic development through academic excellence, employability , acquisition of analytical skills and higher research. It aims to promote the disciplines of Mathematics and motivates the students to thrive in Mathematics.
